A most unconventional convention

A three-day convention of California College Republicans was held in Berkeley last week, to the mixed amusement and consternation of onlookers.
On Saturday, a rally on Sproul Steps was followed by an “impromptu” march down Telegraph Ave. to People’s Park — whose denizens, while hardly strangers to a variety of unusual sightings, bore witness to something almost surely brand new: 200 conservative youth expressing their full-throated “appreciation for America,” in the words of CCR chair-elect (and convention co-organizer) Michael Davidson, a Berkeley senior in political science.
