Work fewer hours through START Program
The University is implementing the Staff and Academic Reduction in Time (START) Program to enable academic personnel and career staff to voluntarily reduce their working time. This reduction in time and pay will help achieve temporary salary savings during this period of budgetary shortfall. The program will be in effect on the Berkeley campus from June 1, 2003 through June 30, 2005.
Under START, an employee may request department-head approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, from one to 12 months, in exchange for a number of advantages. A program description and questions and answers about START are online at hrweb.berkeley.edu/policy/startdes503.htm; they are also available from the Office of Human Resources and the Academic Personnel Office.
