Welcome Week 2003 — and what a week it was!

27 August 2003

Caltopia 2003 — a new event sponsored by Recreational Sports, the ASUC, and the Cal Student Store — featured live music, a Cal fashion show, information and food booths, and lots of free goodies. New and returning Berkeley students took advantage of Welcome Week, Aug. 18-22, to indulge in some last days of fun and frivolity before the start of the academic year this week.

The weeklong marathon began with New Student Convocation, held Aug. 18 in Memorial Glade — a back-to school welcome event for more than 3,000 new freshmen, transfer, and UC Extension students.

Then came both Caltopia (with its goofy games, information booths, and food fair) and Calapalooza — where campus organizations showcased their work and solicited student participation.
