On Tuesday, the Rev. Jesse Jackson kicked off a tour of four California campuses with a noon-hour rally on the steps of Sproul Hall. Invoking past organizing victories “against great odds,” Jackson urged the creation of a “mighty coalition” to defeat both the recall of Governor Gray Davis and Proposition 54. His visit, hosted by the ASUC and other student organizations, came in the midst one of the largest voter-registration drives the campus has seen. “Young America is on the move,” Jackson said as he urged unregistered voters to the front of the crowd to fill out registration forms. “We’re registered. Our vote will make a difference.”
