Volunteer for Homecoming
Free Homecoming Weekend passes are available to those who volunteer to help staff Homecoming & Parents Weekend, Oct. 3-5. Volunteers who work a four-hour shift receive a pass and a Homecoming t-shirt, as well as a box lunch if their shift covers a meal time.

Chancellor to address staff
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the Berkeley Staff Assembly will sponsor Chancellor Robert Berdahl’s annual address to the Berkeley staff. The event will be held in the Sibley Auditorium of the Bechtel Engineering Center from 12:10 to 1 p.m.
This year’s format will include a question-and-answer period; campus staffers with a question to submit for consideration should do so by Monday, Sept. 29. Names and e-mail addresses will be removed from all submissions prior to being sent to the chancellor for review. Submit questions to BSA Coordinator Paul Riofski (riofski@erl.berkeley.edu).
Yale’s Koh to deliver Jefferson Lecture on law since Sept. 11
The fall 2003 Jefferson Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Harold Hongju Koh, professor of international law at Yale Law School, on Thursday, Oct. 2. The title of his address will be “Transnational Legal Process After September 11.”
Koh was assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights, and labor from 1998 to 2001, under Madeleine Albright. During this time he also served as commissioner for security and cooperation in Europe.
The Jefferson Lecture will be held at 4:10 p.m. in the Lipman Room, located on the eighth floor of Barrows Hall. It is free and open to the public.
Campus walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
On Wednesday, Oct. 8, the Health*Matters Walking Group, campus community members, and breast-cancer survivors will participate in a campus walk to commemorate and support those who have been touched by breast cancer. To participate in the 50-minute walk (12:10 to1 p.m.), join the group on the south side of the Campanile. No enrollment is required. For information, call 643-4646.
TLtC grant proposals are due Tuesday, Oct. 28
Oct. 28 is the deadline for University of California Teaching, Learning and Technology Center (TLtC) Feasibility/Planning grant proposals.
The UC TLtC Intercampus Collaborative Grants Program seeks proposals that address significant instructional problems and are of sufficient scope and scale to have a substantial impact on teaching and learning across UC through the use of technology. Examples of TLtC-funded proposals can be found at www.uctltc.org/funding/proposal.html.
The TLtC awards Feasibility/Planning Grants (up to $5,000) to groups of three or more faculty, from a minimum of two campuses, who need resources to determine the feasibility of an intercampus collaborative project and/or want to plan a Full-scale Expansion & Implementation project proposal. UCLA grad student appointed 2004-05 student regent
At its September meeting, the UC Regents appointed Jodi Anderson, a second-year doctoral student in education at UCLA, as the 2004-05 student Regent.
Anderson, a first-generation college student from Fresno, is the 30th student Regent since the position was established in 1975. For the coming year, she will serve as Regent-designate and be able to participate in all board deliberations, but not vote until her one-year term begins in July 2004. Matthew Murray, a Berkeley undergraduate studying architecture, is the student Regent for 2003-04.
