An inaugural reception was held on Sept. 15 to celebrate the creation of the Center for British Studies. Based in the Institute of European Studies, the center will provide a platform for one of the largest and most distinguished group of scholars studying Britain — across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and professional schools — in the United States.
At the reception an agreement was signed by Vice Provost Jan de Vries (seated, right) and Sir Roger Tomkys, Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge (seated, left), to facilitate the exchange of graduate students and faculty between Berkeley and Cambridge.
