Ken Thompson, Butler Lampson, Jim Gray, and Niklaus Wirth — all Berkeley Ph.D.’s in computer science, and all former winners of the Turing Award, computing’s highest honor — were panelists at the recent 30th-anniversary celebration organized by EECS. Their Saturday-afternoon panel before an SRO crowd in Sibley Hall, “Berkeley Visionaries Prognosticate About the Future,” was generally acknowledged to be the highlight event of the weekend.
