Lyon Prize winners exhibit photos at Wurster
The work of undergraduate photographers who are the recipients of the first Matthew M. Lyon Prize in Photography will be on exhibit from May 7 though 23 in the second-floor lobby of Wurster Hall. Student photographers from a range of majors entered the competition for the inaugural prize. The $1,000 award will be shared by Frederick Chang, an electrical engineering and computer sciences major, and Jonathan Owens, of architecture; honorable mentions go to Keeli Shaw, of political science and art history, and Adrea Tencer, of molecular and cell biology.
The prize was endowed in memory of Matt Lyon, Berkeley’s former assistant vice chancellor for public affairs, who died in February 2002 at the age of 45. Administered by the College of Environmental Design, it goes to a Berkeley undergraduate, recognizing excellence in photography.

May 11 hearing on campus long-range development plan
The community is invited to attend an upcoming public hearing on the draft 2020 Long Range Development Plan and Tien Center Environmental Impact Report. The hearing will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, at the Krutch Theater, Clark Kerr Campus, 2601 Warring St., in Berkeley.
The long-range plan will guide land use and physical development of the campus for the next 15 years. For information, visit . SAGE graduation fundraiser set for May 26 SAGE prepares low-income, high-achieving students to succeed in a competitive economy by combining workplace experience with professional skills. Students receive internships, coaching, mentoring, and professional career-development courses. The program is self-supporting and does not receive state funding. Macy’s West, one of the program’s corporate sponsors, will host the ceremony. Admission is $50. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. and will feature celebrity speakers, refreshments, entertainment, and a silent auction. Sign up through YouthWorks for summer assistance YouthWorks prescreens qualified local applicants, ages 16 to 21 years, to fill in during the summer-vacation period. It is currently recruiting youth to work as clerks, administrative assistants, and aides in campus administrative offices, labs, sports camps, gardens, grounds, childcare centers, and housing and dining facilities. The Student Achievement Guided by Experience Program is holding its annual commencement ceremony (which this year also serves as a fundraising event) on Wednesday, May 26, in downtown San Francisco.
Approximately 200 people on the Berkeley campus are currently engaged in planning the future of our information technology (IT) environment. The current goal of this planning effort is to develop guiding principles for IT at Berkeley, a short list of critical IT issues that the campus must address, and a prioritized list of necessary initiatives and operational improvements.
This year’s YouthWorks Program, a partnership between the campus and the City of Berkeley, will run from June 21 through Aug. 27.
