A Week of Caring in December
17 November 2004
Berkeley’s Week of Caring – Campus Charitable Campaign officially begins next month, giving staff and faculty a chance to make badly needed donations to their favorite charities or to the campus community.
This year’s campaign, set for the week of Dec. 1 to 8, makes it easier than ever to give. Want to make a financial pledge? Everything you need is online at the campus business portal, blu.berkeley.edu. From now through Dec. 8, staff and faculty can designate their donations to benefit one of the campaign’s featured charities — including needy campus programs — or to their favorite nonprofit group. After logging in, just click on the Campus Charitable Campaign logo and follow the easy steps at the e-Way pledge site. (Those who prefer pen-and-paper giving can obtain a printed pledge form by calling the campaign’s administrator, Elisabeth Gordon, at 642-1574, or else e-mail her at e_gordon @berkeley.edu.)
This year’s campaign also includes a Food, Toy, and Gift Drive to benefit at-risk children and the elderly in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Donations of gifts, new toys, and healthy, non-perishable food items will be collected in campus departments through Friday, Dec. 10; special barrels (for toys only) will be available at the Dec. 4 men’s and women’s basketball games at Haas Pavilion. Further details are posted on the websites of the Berkeley Staff Assembly (bsa.berkeley.edu) and the Black Staff and Faculty Organization (bsfoucb.berkeley.edu), co-sponsors of the drive.
Care to receive as well as give? Prizes to be given away by campus departments during the Week of Caring include 2,400 tickets to the Dec. 4 men’s and women’s basketball games; 25 pairs of tickets to January performances of the Peking Acrobats; certificates for summer-session and UC Extension classes; one-year subscriptions to the School of Public Health’s Wellness Letter; and a deeply discounted lifetime membership in the California Alumni Association. To become eligible for a prize, register online by Monday, Nov. 22, at the Cal Marketplace, www.calmarketplace.org. Winners will be notified by e-mail.
Finally, 20-percent discounts will be available to all Berkeley employees at the Cal Student Store from Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 1 to 3.
