Candidates for Dean of Students to speak, answer questions
The campus is planning a series of open meetings at which members of the campus community can meet the candidates being considered for the position of Dean of Students. The meetings for staff and faculty will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Berkeley Room of the Residential and Student Services Building (2610 Channing Way) on Friday, Jan. 20; Monday, Jan. 23; Tuesday, Jan. 24; and Friday, Jan. 27.
Each candidate will give a 30-minute presentation; an opportunity will follow to ask questions raised by the material presented and give written feedback. A separate series of meetings is being organized for students.
Applications sought for staff adviser to regents
Eligible UC staff and non-Senate academic employees are invited to apply for a position as the 2006-07 staff adviser to the UC Board of Regents. The application deadline is 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The staff-adviser pilot program is a two-year program approved by the Board of Regents and instituted in 2005-06; it is intended to provide the regents with staff and non-Senate academic employee perspectives on relevant matters that come before their committees and the board. The staff adviser will be selected by UC President Robert Dynes in consultation with the chair of the Board of Regents.

Campus voicemail change-over set for Jan. 28
The campus voicemail system will be replaced on Wednesday, Jan. 28, by a new system called UniBears. Messages, recorded names, recorded greetings, and passwords will not be migrated to the new system, so users will need to recreate them in the new system. To minimize the impact of the switchover, an "early adopter" option is available, but Communications & Network Services will stop processing those requests on Friday, Jan. 20.
The new system will continue to offer basic voicemail services, like receiving and retrieving voice messages through the telephone, as well as offering unified messaging and virtual fax services. Users will be able to retrieve messages off the old voicemail system for two weeks after cutover.

Disaster-preparedness healthcare programs available for PDA video players
University of California Television (UCTV) is offering free video podcasts ("vodcasts") of a six-part series, "Disaster Preparedness for the Healthcare Providers," for downloading onto iPod video players or other video-capable personal digital assistants. It includes segments on disaster preparedness, bioterrorist threats, chemical and radiation threats, emerging infections, infectious diseases after natural disasters, and avian influenza. Each program is certified for one hour of CME credit by UC Davis; four of the six are also available in Spanish.
Viewers can subscribe to UCTV vodcast and podcast feeds or download individual programs at no cost by visiting www.uctv.tv/podcasts. Broadcast schedules, links to view programs via vodcast or streaming "on-demand" video, and details about registering for credit can be found at www.uctv.tv/.
UC vice president Mullinix to take overseas post
The University of California announced last week that its senior vice president for business and finance, Joseph Mullinix, will resign in March to take a job as deputy president for administration at the National University of Singapore. Mullinix, 63, was responsible for the development of policy and oversight for UC financial systems; human resources, compensation, and benefit programs; controller; internal audit; business functions; information technology; and facilities administration.
