Administration control unit merges Budget and Finance with Business and Administrative Services

| 08 March 2006

Effective March 1, Budget and Finance and Business and Administrative Services (BAS) merged to form a new control unit called Administration.
In welcoming the new vice chancellor for the combined operation, Nathan Brostrom, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau described his reasons for merging the two formerly separate units.

"I wanted to strengthen the partnership between the three primary components of the campus," he said. "The Chancellor's Office oversees the entire campus, the executive vice chancellor and provost leads the academic endeavor, and now the finance and administrative operations will be consolidated under one vice chancellor."

Referring to the new vice chancellor's extensive experience in banking and public finance, the chancellor said: "I am confident that in Nathan Brostrom we have found the right person to bring strong leadership to campus finances and the administration."

The new unit features a reorganized array of divisions designed to better integrate services across departmental lines. Paul Jenny has been appointed Associate Vice Chancellor-Budget and Resource Planning. Steve Lustig, who served as Acting Vice Chancellor-BAS over the past 20 months, has been appointed Associate Vice Chancellor-Health and Human Services, a new cluster within Administration that includes University Health Services, the Office of Human Resources, and the Staff Ombuds Office. Information Technology Services and user support for BFS, HRMS, and BAIRS will be integrated under a new unit headed by Administration's chief technology officer and executive director for business and technology services, Tessa Michaels. Other clusters from the former BAS and Budget and Finance units remain intact in the new Administration organization.

William Webster, who served as acting vice chancellor for budget and finance, has retired.
