Celebrating all things green
Sustainability group will fund new projects, honor best practices, and adopt a new logo
16 March 2006
In preparation for the campus's third annual Sustainability Summit, set for the afternoon of Thursday, April 27, the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Sustainability (CACS) seeks to honor the following:
. Green projects on campus: Staff, faculty, and students are eligible to apply for grants of up to $2,000. Grants will be awarded to individuals or groups who demonstrate commitment to campus greening and environmental sustainability, maximum potential to achieve results, and relevant work or volunteer experience. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31. The winning projects will be announced by Chancellor Birgeneau at the 2006 Sustainability Summit. For applications, see sustainability.berkeley.edu or call 643-4612. For information, contact Sasha Gennet at cacs@nature.berkeley.edu or 642-4364.
. Current green practices: Nominations are being accepted through Monday, April 17, for UC Berkeley Sustainability Awards. The awards recognize campus groups and individuals who have made significant contributions to CACS' goals, which are to initiate campus dialogue on sustainability issues; integrate sustainability principles into existing campus educational, operational, research, and public-service programs; and instill a culture of sustainability into the campus's long-range planning and design. For a nomination form, visit sustainability.berkeley.edu or call 643-4793. For information, contact Sasha Gennet (see previous paragraph).
. Logo designs: Staff, faculty, and students are invited to submit designs for a logo reflecting CACS' goals for use on its website, correspondence, awards, and promotional materials. The winning design - to be announced at the Sustainability Summit - will be awarded a yet-to-announced "fabulous prize." The logo must be scalable and entered in color (if applicable) and black-and-white. The deadline is Friday, March 31; e-mail submissions in PDF format to Alina Siu, alinasiu@berkeley.edu. The winner will be notified in advance of the summit.
