Arts-funding proposals for 2008-09 are due Dec. 1

The Consortium for the Arts invites faculty, students, and staff to submit funding proposals for interdisciplinary arts-related projects to take place in the next academic year, 2008-09. The consortium offers grants (usually between $3,000 and $10,000) to support interdisciplinary projects that enhance the vitality of the arts on campus and provoke intellectual conversation about the arts. Projects may involve bringing visiting artists to campus or may be collaborations among campus artists, producers, and scholars.

A workshop offering tips on preparing a successful proposal will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. in 205 Dwinelle Annex; pre-registration is required by Nov. 8 by contacting Michele Rabkin at micheler@berkeley.edu. Individual consultation on proposal plans can also be arranged.

For details about criteria, requirements, and application instructions - or to learn about arts funding available for the current academic year - visit www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/bca/grants.html or contact Rabkin. The deadline for submitting proposals is Saturday, Dec. 1.

UC and partners recognized for energy-efficiency practices

The University of California, along with its partners in the Higher Education Energy Efficiency Partnership, has been recognized as a national leader in energy-efficiency programs by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, a nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C.

The partnership includes UC, California State University, California Community Colleges, Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and Sempra Energy's two California utilities, San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Co. It is funded by utility customers through public-goods charges and administered by the utility companies under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
