Senate meeting, faculty town hall on budget issues April 23
UC President Mark Yudof will attend the spring meeting of the Berkeley Division of the Academic Senate on Thursday, April 23, to share his perspectives on the UC budget and to answer faculty questions. The Senate meeting will be followed by a town-hall session featuring Chancellor Birgeneau, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost George Breslauer, and Vice Chancellor for Administration Nathan Brostom, who will provide an overview of the campus budget situation and current strategies to address it.
The Senate meeting is scheduled to run from 3 to 4:30 p.m., with the town hall starting immediately thereafter. Faculty inquiries should be directed to the Senate office at acad_sen@berkeley.edu.
SPH staff offer community-building info session April 29
On Wednesday, April 29, from noon to 1 p.m. in 401 University Hall, staff from the School of Public Health (SPH) will share information about STARS (Staff Talent and Role Sharing), a one-on-one exchange program they initiated as part of the Berkeley Initiative for Leadership Diversity. STARS matches participants with staff of different backgrounds and payroll classifications in their department to learn about other jobs, build personal networks, gain resources, and explore career opportunities and aspirations.
SPH staff, who view the program as low-cost means to build morale and staff cohesion, have developed a toolkit for other departments that includes marketing materials, registration forms, online surveys, workshop exercises, exchange guidelines, and a website template they are offering to session participants. Justice Breyer to preside over moot court competition April 14
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will preside over a distinguished panel of judges during final arguments at the James Patterson McBaine Honors Moot Court Competition, the School of Law has announced. Judge Michael McConnell of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and Judge David Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit will complete the panel.
The final round in the competition will be held in Wheeler Auditorium from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14. Although the event is free and open to the public, online registration is required. To register, and for more information, visit www.law.berkeley. edu/3004.htm.
The presentation on international law that Justice Breyer will deliver at International House on Friday, April 10, sponsored by the Blum Center for Developing Economies, is completely sold out.
International House to dish up Easter and Passover dinners
As part of its series of cultural theme meals, International House will offer buffet dinners in observance of both Easter (Sunday, April 12) and Passover (Wednesday, April 15), from 6 to 8 p.m. The "all you can eat" cost is $9.75 per person.
