New regulations, policy for hazardous-materials shipping
The Federal Aviation Administration has intensified its scrutiny of research institutions' compliance with hazardous-material shipping regulations, imposing significant fines for violations. The campus policy regarding such shipments was recently revised to reflect two new related requirements. First, a label, provided by the campus Office of Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S), certifying that the shipper has been trained, is now required on all packages of hazardous materials. Second, FedEx will now pick up such packages only from these central-campus locations: B84 Hildebrand Hall, 111 Koshland Hall, 1005 Valley Life Science Building, and 156 Stanley Hall. EH&S provides direct, hands-on packaging and shipping assistance to those who ship hazardous materials less than twice a year. Those who ship more frequently must be trained and certified before they prepare packages. The EH&S website has been updated to provide necessary information, including online training. Numerous ways to support campus's AIDS Walk team
All faculty and staff are encouraged to participate as the Cal AIDS Walk team prepares for the annual 10-kilometer walk in San Francisco, which this year takes place on Sunday, July 19. Support for the team can be provided by registering as a walker, sponsoring a team member, volunteering on walk day, or making a donation in the team's name.
Interested walkers can register online at aidswalk.net/sanfran; navigate to Teams/Registered Teams/University of California, Berkeley. Registration can also be done by phone (415-615-9255) or by mail; registration cards are available from display stands in many locations across campus. When registering by phone or mail, be sure to enter the Berkeley team number (0087).

General Catalog on sale at a discount to campus units
The 2009-11 General Catalog, the definitive listing of Berkeley courses and curricula and an indispensable tool for those who advise and support students, was released last week and is now on sale at a discount to campus units. Campus offices can order copies of the catalog for their staff and faculty by sending e-mail to catalog@berkeley.edu.
The book is produced by UC Berkeley Public Affairs, in cooperation with the Academic Senate, Office of the Registrar, Information Services and Technology, and UC Printing Services.
Catalogs ordered for faculty and staff through departments are $5 each, less than half the $11 price of the volume on sale to the public. To order catalogs for a unit, provide a contact's name, department, address, phone number, number of catalogs desired, and a chartstring to charge for payment. In our May 7 issue, we erred in stating that Jennifer Wolch, newly appointed dean of the College of Environmental Design, would be the campus's fourth female dean, joining AnnaLee Saxenian at the School of Information, Lorraine Midanik at the School of Social Welfare, and Janet Broughton, acting executive dean of the College of Letters and Science and dean of its division of arts and humanities. We neglected to include Diana Wu, dean of UC Berkeley Extension, in that tally.
