WHAT: |
Press
briefing on the University of California, Berkeley's plans
to build new student housing, which would provide 850
new beds, as well as a seismically-secure central dining
and office complex. In addition, the master plan for the
Underhill area, on the south side of campus, includes
a parking structure for 1,000 vehicles with a sports field
on top.
Color
drawings showing the planned housing units and dining
complex will be available at the briefing, as will the
draft environmental impact report on the area plan.

the plans and designs for the housing facilities and answer
questions. In addition, residence hall students will be
available to comment. |

BACKGROUND:
Available housing has become one of the most important
issues to UC Berkeley students. The new project will provide
two residence-hall style complexes and two apartment-style
complexes. The current dining halls, which are not seismically
secure, will be replaced by one central dining facility.
OPPORTUNITIES
FOR VISUALS: Students having lunch in the Unit 1 dining
hall; areas proposed for new housing; and architectural
drawings of the proposed facilities.
