Vice Chancellor -- University Relations Position Open By Robert Sanders, Public
Affairs Vice Chancellor-University Relations and President, UCB Foundation. Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience. 08-900-90/SMG. Closing date: open until filled (review begins 10/1/98). Management position reporting directly to the Chancellor. Currently, the vice chancellor-university relations has overall management and fiscal responsibility for the Development Office, Government Affairs, Media Relations, Public Ceremonies and Visitor Services and University Communications. As President of the University of California, Berkeley Foundation, the vice chancellor oversees a $100 million not-for-profit corporation, which raises, invests and administers donation funds for the benefit of programs and activities of the university. The vice chancellor is responsible for the planning, organization and direction of all fundraising conducted on behalf of the Chancellor and directly solicits major gifts. Required qualifications: demonstrated experience in cultivating and soliciting top-level gifts and pledges; proven record of fundraising in a university setting. Knowledge of contemporary issues and methods in higher educational institutional advancement and public affairs. Significant leadership experience and skills as an administrator in a large, complex academic institution. Demonstrated ability to manage professional staff and establish effective working relationships with faculty, university administrators, trustees, volunteer leaders and the public. Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
