Iris Tommelein
The American Society of Civil Engineers has cited
Iris Tommelein for her service as chair of the executive
committee of its Technical Council on Computing and
Information Technology. Tommelein is acting associate
professor of civil and environmental engineering.
Lotfi Zadeh
Lotfi Zadeh, professor emeritus of electrical
engineering and computer sciences, received his ninth
honorary degree, this one from the University of Toronto.
The degree recognizes his contributions in developing new
set and logic theories and the concept of soft computing.
Carlo Sequin and Lawrence Rowe
Carlo Sequin and Lawrence Rowe, both professors
of electrical engineering and computersciences, have been
elected Fellows of the Association for Computing Machinery.
John Kubiatowicz
Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and
Computer Sciences John Kubiatowicz received one of two
1997-98 George Sprowls Dissertation Awards from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The prize recognizes outstanding doctoral research in
computer science. Kubiatowicz was honored for his
dissertation, "Integrated Shared-Memory and Message-Passing
Communication in the Alewife Multiprocessor."
Leon Chua
Leon Chua, professor of electrical engineering
and computer sciences, has received the Mac Van Valkenberg
Award of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Chua was
honored for significant and innovative research
contributions to circuits and systems technology,
particularly in the area of network chaos.
