Distinguished Service Award Info Meeting Session posted November 11, 1998 The Berkeley Staff Assembly hosts an information session on Distinguished Service Awards Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 12:10 p.m. in 2040 Valley Life Sciences Building. Members of the Pay Committee and the Human Resources Control Unit administrator group will be on hand to explain the new distribution timeline, listen to comments and answer questions. Nominations for the award are due Nov. 30 and will be announced in January. The 1998 Distinguished Service Awards would normally have been processed last spring but were delayed as part of a revised plan instituted by Berkeley's vice chancellors. Under the new plan, the awards coincide with the fall performance evaluations and merit increase cycles. However, because the vice chancellors wanted more time for guideline development, this year's awards missed that time period and are being implemented now. Supervisors nominate their staff for exceptional performance on either an individual or team basis. The 1998 awards cover staff performance between July 1, 1997 and June 30, 1998. Individual awards range from $1,500 to $5,000 while team awards offer $2,000 per member. Selection criteria for the award includes exceptional contributions, noteworthy achievements and exceeding job expectations as demonstrated in the performance evaluation, according to Human Resources documentation.
