Posted June 7, 2000 Nina Robinson, former director of policy, planning and analysis for admissions, has been named Public Affairs' executive director. Robinson, a 15-year veteran of the Berkeley campus, will help provide daily operational oversight to the Public Affairs program, oversee fiscal planning, budget and personnel management, and will direct the work of the Government Affairs, Industry Relations, Cal Parents and Visitor Services units. In addition, she will assist in shaping the campus's overall strategic communications efforts. She will join a leadership team responsible for designing and implementing new communication and constituency-oriented projects and initiatives in support of Berkeley's preeminent role in higher education. "Nina is a powerhouse, a generator of ideas, highly respected for the quality of her counsel and her reputation for getting things done," said Matthew Lyon, assistant vice chancellor for public affairs. Robinson began her campus career in 1985 as a consultant to the campus planning office and the library. Prior to her work in admissions, she also worked as a public policy analyst and researcher in the Center for Studies in Higher Education, the Office of the President's Planning and Analysis unit, and the Office of Institutional Research. A native Californian, Robinson received her bachelor of arts degree in literature and visual arts in 1973 from the University of California, San Diego. From 1974 to 1977 she pursued a Ph.D. in English at Berkeley and, in 1989, received her master's degree from Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy. During an eight-year hiatus from the campus, Robinson worked in communications and public relations. From 1978 to 1984, she was at Deloitte Haskins & Sells, an international accounting and consulting firm that later became Deloitte & Touche. She went on to become a communications consultant in Oakland, working with a variety of nonprofit and educational organizations.
