Glasses and Funds Raised at Alumni Wine Tasting posted July 15, 1998 Alumni vintners helped the Berkeley-Oakland-Piedmont (BOP) chapter of the California Alumni Association raise $2,500 for scholarships at a benefit wine tasting June 19 at Alumni House. More than 23 wineries, all with Cal connections, participated, including Kendall-Jackson, Trefethen and Navarro. The vintners poured their latest releases for the 200 people in attendance, finishing off 12 cases of wine before the night was over. "This first annual event was a great success and we'll definitely be doing it again," said Christine Shaff, BOP chapter president. The wine tasting helped raise money for California Alumni Association/BOP Leadership Awards, which provide $1,000 annual scholarships to students from the chapter's area. The proceeds will also help build the endowment for BOP's "$100,000 by 2000 Millennium Campaign. "Reaching this goal will enable the chapter to double the number of scholarships they give, said Shaff.
