Staff Savor Fun and Sun at Summerfest posted July 15, 1998 Thousands of staff left their offices June 15 for a Summerfest celebration in their honor, enjoying music, games, food and warm weather. Chancellor Berdahl commended the staff for their excellence in service and showed his appreciation by allowing staff to leave work an hour early. The 13th annual event drew more than 5,000 staff to the base of the Campanile between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. While many staff lined up for free massages, others visited information tables and enjoyed music from a 20-piece steel-drum band. As part of the staff appreciation festivities, more than
100 prizes were awarded. Winners and prizes included Dale
Maddox, College of Natural Resources, one-year central
parking pass; Jean Lee, Housing and Dining Services, lunch
with the Chancellor; Sally Hughes, Library, lunch with
Police Chief Harrison; Elizabeth Huerta, Young Musicians
Program, and Maria Pancheco, Department of Chemistry,
mountain bikes; and Heidi Hester, College of Natural
Resources, Claremont Spa Package. Winners were notified by
phone, email and campus mail.
