Awards Slawomir Hermanowicz Slawomir Hermanowicz, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, was recently appointed Nishihara Distinguished Lecturer at the International Center for Water Environment Engineering and the Department of Environmental Engineering, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan. The lectureship was created from an endowment by the Nishihara Environmental Sanitation Research Corporation to bring to Japan eminent professionals in the area of water supply and pollution control. During his two-week stay this summer, Hermanowicz presented a series of lectures on microbial quality of drinking water at the Hokkaido University, the University of Tokyo and the University of Kyoto.
Kathryn Wayne Kathryn Wayne, fine arts librarian and head of the Art History/Classics Graduate Service at Doe Library, was recently elected vice president/president elect of the Art Libraries Society of North America. The society, founded in 1972, fosters excellence in art librarianship and visual resources curatorship for the advancement of the visual arts. Its members include more than 1,500 individuals and organizations. Wayne has been at Berkeley for eight years.
