Human rights activist Rigoberta Menchu.

"Truth, Human Rights and History: The Case of Rigoberta Menchu" will be the topic of an April 13 discussion moderated by Jose Rabasa, professor of Spanish and Portuguese. The event starts at 4 p.m. at the Townsend Center, 220 Stephens.

Panelists will include Robin Kirk of Human Rights Watch; Beatriz Manz, associate professor of ethnic studies; Victor Montejo, associate professor of Native American studies at UC Davis; and David Stoll, professor of anthropology at Middlebury College and author of the just-published book, "Rigoberta Menchu and the Story of All Poor Guatemalans."

The event is part of an April lecture series sponsored by the Human Rights Center, the Townsend Center for the Humanities and the Institute of International Studies. The Menchu discussion is co-sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies.

Subsequent events in the series include:

• April 26: "Converting Human Rights to Realities in South Africa," Peter and Linda Biehl of the Amy Biehl Foundation;
• April 28: "Human Rights in International Clinical Trials," Baruch Brody, professor of philosophy at Rice University and director of the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine; and
• April 29: "Patient Rights in HMOs: Is This a Human Rights Issue?"
