Wozniak will deliver the season’s main address at a Commencement Convocation for all graduating seniors on Tuesday, May 12, at 4 p.m. in Zellerbach Auditorium. A limited number of free tickets will be available to the public starting May 6 at the Zellerbach Box Office. Also speaking at the convocation, organized by the Senior Class Council, will be Chancellor Berdahl; University Medalist Moshiur Mekhail Anwar, this year’s top graduating senior; and, on behalf of the Class of 1948’s 50th anniversary, Marian Diamond, professor of integrative biology and director emeritus of the Lawrence Hall of Science. Wozniak received his BS in computer science from UC Berkeley in 1986 under the pseudonym Rocky Raccoon Clark. He returns to campus again May 24 for the computer science commencement, at which he will be honored as Alumnus of the Year. Wozniak is now teaching and providing computer support for the Los Gatos Unified School District. Various awards will be presented to outstanding seniors at convocation, including the Priestley Award for leadership and the Mather Award for citizenship, as well as several athletic awards. Speakers at the May graduation ceremonies will include Mayor Willie Brown of San Francisco (African American Studies, May 17); Leon Panetta, former White House chief of staff (Law, May 23); State Senator Bill Lockyer (Political Science, May 26); and Rev. Jesse Jackson (Goldman School of Public Policy, May 23). Also speaking to the new graduates and their families will be Rev. Cecil Williams of San Francisco’s Glide Memorial Church and San Francisco Chronicle columnist Jon Carroll (Undergraduate and Interdisciplinary Studies, May 21); Stanton Glantz, UCSF’s anti-tobacco warrior (Public Health, May 16); Robert D. Haas, ’64, Chairman and CEO of Levi Strauss (Business, May 25); David Halberstam, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist (Journalism, May 9); and two Nobel laureates – Charles Townes from UC Berkeley (physics/astronomy, May 22) and Paul Berg from Stanford (molecular and cell biology, May 25). More than 60 departments, schools, and colleges will hold graduation ceremonies as part of UC Berkeley’s 135th commencement. Approximately 7,500 seniors are expected to receive bachelor’s degrees, along with about 2,700 students receiving graduate degrees.
